RAID Technology For Lotus Notes

RAID technology is a great feature of Lotus Notes that protects information in the event of a hard drive failure. It incorporates multiple hard disk drives into a single file system, and employs fail-tolerance in the event of the failure of a single drive. It’s particularly beneficial for businesses that have multiple hard drives and need to ensure their information is always available.

A typical raid setup is made up of three or two hard disks. Each disk has its own data path. The transaction log is broken down into smaller files known as log extents. These files are typically 64MB in size. The Notes Machine supervises the transaction log.

Raid has been around for decades and is a key component of the majority of datacenter systems. But it’s not completely reliable. The entire system of files could be rendered unusable if more than one drive fails.

Despite its flaws, raid is still used by some organizations to protect their important data. The most recent versions of RAID and other features, such as erasure code, are more efficient than ever at protecting data from loss and provide better performance. They cost more than the traditional options.
